A Sneak Peak into EMBARC’s new Yoga Class For Survivor

Join us in our newest mental health service as we explore the many benefits of trauma informed yoga with the Crisis and Advocacy Program.

EMBARC is proud to support introducing our first Trauma-Informed Yoga class under the Crisis and Advocacy Program. This initiative is designed to provide a sanctuary of calm and healing for Crisis and Advocacy survivors.

Each Tuesday, from 4 to 5 p.m., 19 dedicated participants, including some EMBARC staff, gathered for an eight-week journey of self-care and recovery. The calm and quiet environment, put together by the team, created a tranquil atmosphere inside a welcoming gym adorned with garden string lights.

Our experienced yoga instructor led participants through mindful movements and breathing exercises designed to release stress and anxiety while promoting mental well-being.

Client 1 joined the yoga class seeking relief from muscle pain and stress and found the sessions to be a source of physical and emotional comfort. She noticed significant improvements in her mindfulness and overall calmness as she continued the program. "I’ve become better at meditation and focus," she noted. She values the class so much that she’s started incorporating yoga into her daily routine. "Just 5 minutes a day can make a big difference," she said.

Trauma-Informed Yoga classes like this are more than just physical exercise; they are a holistic approach to managing the mental health challenges faced by the victims EMBARC Refugee Navigators serve. By incorporating these practices, we aim to help participants ease mental health factors such as stress, boost energy, alleviate anxiety, and improve posture and joint health.

Client 2, initially intrigued by yoga, quickly developed a deep appreciation for the yoga sessions. After only 2 weeks, she has found the sessions beneficial for her well-being. She appreciates the safe and welcoming environment, noting, "The class calms me down," and highlights the positive impact of the instructor's kindness and patience. This sense of calm and support has become a cherished aspect of her life, offering a peaceful escape from daily stress.

The positive impact of this program on survivors has been particularly noteworthy. For many, this class has provided a much-needed outlet for stress relief and mental wellness, fostering a sense of community and belonging. It has empowered them to take proactive steps towards their mental health, improving their overall quality of life.

While the current focus is on supporting Crisis and Advocacy survivors, we hope that the success of this project will allow us to expand its availability to the broader community in the future.

This yoga class represents a significant step towards healing and resilience, offering participants the tools to manage stress and anxiety effectively. We are committed to providing a supportive environment where everyone can find the strength and peace they need to move forward.
